Kamay at Puso: Striving to create a world in which children and families are healthy and self-sustaining

Kamay at Puso is my most favorite non-profit organization. The reason why I have so much respect for this org. is the story behind it. It all started with an idea formulated by a small group of college students who traveled abroad to study the culture of the Philippines in 2003. During that period they witnessed the children of the small village of Madapdap who were struggling due to various ailments and physical disabilities. The source of these ailments were attributed to toxic waste dumping from Clark Air Force Base which was contaminating their drinking water. With their hearts set on creating a better solution for these children, Kamay at Puso was formed. They began by using their own personal money to provide transportation for the children and their mothers to go to a physical therapy center. The journey proved too difficult. The only other solution was to build a center at the village where the children lived. Fast forward to 2007, Kamay at Puso is now officially a 501c(3) status non-profit organization and many of the children are showing significant progress in their treatment. It's disheartening, knowing that children around the world have to live in such conditions. The lesson here however, is that a big difference can be made in the world from just one small idea.
